SmallRig 5169 Attachable VND Filter ND64-ND400 (6-9 Stop) 67mm
SmallRig 5169 Attachable VND Filter ND64-ND400 (6-9 Stop) 67mm | Variable light control for video
The SmallRig 5169 Attachable VND Filter ND64-ND400 (6-9 Stop) 67mm varies light reduction from six to nine stops, with ND64 and ND400 end points. It’s for video makers and photographers who need a strong, adjustable neutral density filter, including people filming with compatible SmallRig phone video kits. In video, the adjustable density gives you control over exposure and motion blur across different lighting conditions. For phone work, the filter is compatible with SmallRig kits and cages or cases that use a 67mm magnetic filter adapter; listed phone examples include the iPhone 16 series, Samsung S24 Ultra and Vivo X100 Ultra. The included threaded adapter also fits 67mm lenses, so you can use the filter on a compatible lens setup. Magnetic attachment is the key convenience here: the filter attaches quickly and can be changed without threading the filter itself onto the adapter.
In the field
- Six-to-nine-stop adjustment: The variable ND range gives you substantial light reduction to work with when setting exposure for video or photography.
- Multilayer optical glass: German-made glass with multiple coatings is specified for high definition and clarity, keeping the image clean as you add density.
- Reduced X-shaped shading: The filter is designed to suppress the cross-shaped shadow that can appear with variable ND filters.
- Rotation limiter: A limiting design keeps the filter’s adjustment within its intended travel, rather than allowing it to turn freely past the range.
- Hard stops at both ends: The ND64 and ND400 settings have definite end points, making it clear when you’ve reached either edge of the adjustment range.
Size and fit
The included screw-in adapter is sized for a 67mm lens thread, while the filter itself measures 77mm across and 9mm thick. Keep that distinction in mind when checking clearance around the front of a lens or phone rig: the adapter’s thread size and the filter’s outside dimensions aren’t the same measurement. The filter weighs 41g.
Specialist Note
On a compatible magnetic setup, the filter attaches quickly, and its rotation stops at the ends of its range. I’d recommend it to video makers who want to manage bright conditions while keeping motion blur in their footage: rotate within the six-to-nine-stop range to adjust the light reduction as you set your exposure. The 41g weight keeps the filter itself light on a phone rig, and the hard stops make the ND64 and ND400 limits easy to identify. It also works on 67mm lens threads with the supplied adapter, so one filter can serve a compatible phone setup and lens setup.
