SMDV Speedbox-FLIP44 (w/o Adapter)

SMDV Speedbox-FLIP44 (w/o Adapter) | Fast-folding light for studio or location

The folding frame is the defining idea behind the SMDV Speedbox-FLIP44: it’s made to open and collapse quickly, rather than being taken apart after every session. This 110 cm octagonal softbox is for photographers working with flash in a studio or on location, especially for portrait, beauty and fashion photography. Its fixed diffuser produces even light across the front of the modifier, giving you a broad, soft source for subjects where smooth illumination matters. The Flip44 is also a useful option when a large softbox needs to be packed away between shoots; the maker’s folding system is reported to have it ready for use again in about 20 seconds. That speed matters during a portrait session with changing setups, or when moving between locations and you don’t want to rebuild the softbox from separate parts. The shape and diffuser make it suited to controlled, even illumination rather than a narrow beam. One ordering detail to keep in mind: this version is supplied without its adapter, also described as a speedring. You’ll need the appropriate separate part to mount it to your lighting setup. The softbox itself comes with a carry bag for transport and storage.

What it does

• Quick-fold frame: The Flip system opens and closes without requiring you to take the softbox fully apart. The stated setup time is about 20 seconds, useful when a shoot calls for a fast change of lighting arrangement.
• Octagonal shape: The eight-sided front produces an even spread of light through the softbox. That broad, balanced character is well suited to portrait, beauty and fashion work, where smooth illumination is often preferred.
• Fixed diffuser: The diffuser is part of the softbox configuration, so the front is ready to produce the even light described for this model. It’s a straightforward setup rather than a modifier with a diffuser that needs to be added separately.
• 110 cm diameter: The large front surface gives the Flip44 its softbox scale for studio and location work. It can serve as a main light or as one part of a portrait lighting arrangement, depending on the rest of your setup.
• Adapter not included: This listing is for the Speedbox-FLIP44 without an adapter; the product description also identifies the speedring as excluded. Factor that separate mounting part into your setup before planning to use the softbox.
• Made for studio or location: The Flip44’s stated uses include both studio sessions and shoots on location. Its fast folding format is especially relevant when you need to pack the modifier away between setups or transport it to a different shooting space.

Good to know

The softbox is made from aluminium and nylon. Its listed dimensions are 110 × 87 × 54 cm; these are the product dimensions provided for the Flip44, not a stated packed measurement. A carry bag is included, but no packed dimensions are given. The listed contents don’t include an adapter or speedring, so those should be treated as separate items when preparing your lighting kit.
