Tamron SP AF 150-500mm f/5-6.7 DI III VC VXD Sony E-Mount

Tamron SP AF 150-500mm f/5-6.7 DI III VC VXD Sony E-Mount | Reach distant wildlife

The defining decision here is a broad 150-500mm zoom range: it lets you adjust your framing as an animal moves or a sports subject changes position, without changing lenses. This is a full-frame telephoto zoom for Sony E-mount cameras, aimed at photographers who want to bring distant action closer in the frame. It’s particularly well suited to wildlife, birds and sports, where getting physically closer isn’t always possible. At the shorter end, you can include more of the scene; zoom in when you want a tighter view of a subject across a field or water. That flexibility makes it a practical option for outings where the distance to your subject can change quickly. If you photograph these subjects regularly and want one lens to cover a range of working distances, this Tamron is built around that need.

Flexible framing in the field

• Adjust your composition as a subject approaches or moves farther away.
• Go from a wider view of the action to a tighter portrait without swapping lenses.
• For birds, keep some space around a moving subject, then tighten the frame when it settles.

On a Sony APS-C body

The lens also gives a narrower field of view on a Sony APS-C body: its range has a 225-750mm full-frame-equivalent field of view there. That can be handy when you want a bird or distant player to fill more of the frame. It’s a useful detail to bear in mind when choosing your framing, especially at the long end.
