TetherTools TetherPro USB 2.0 To USB Female Active Ext 5m

TetherTools TetherPro USB 2.0 To USB Female Active Ext 5m | Adds five metres to a USB connection

The defining choice here is an active extension cable: it adds a five-metre section to a USB connection while keeping a female USB socket at the far end. That layout is handy when the existing cable needs more reach but you still want a socket available for the next connection. The TetherTools TetherPro is a specialist cable accessory for photographers and other users building a USB setup with more distance between its connection points. Its title specifies USB 2.0, an active extension and a five-metre length, so those are the details to match against the cable arrangement you have in mind. The female end is the practical detail to pay attention to; it determines what kind of plug can connect there. It’s a simple, specific job, rather than a cable with a range of different connector options.

For a tethered workspace, extra cable length can give you more freedom in where you place connected equipment. Think through the route before setting up: the useful measure is the path the cable needs to follow, not just the straight-line distance between two points. Also consider where you want the female socket to sit, since that’s where the next USB connection will be made. This description identifies a USB 2.0 cable with an active extension and a female USB end; the title alone doesn’t identify a particular camera or computer connection. In short, choose it when the five-metre extension and that socket arrangement suit your setup. The connector layout matters as much as the length.
