Tiffen 44STRK1 4x4 Streak 1 mm Filter
Tiffen 44STRK1 4x4 Streak 1 mm Filter | Add streaks to point lights
Without an optical effect filter, a streak of light is usually something you create later in editing. The Tiffen 44STRK1 4x4 Streak 1 mm Filter gives you an in-camera way to bring that look to bright point lights in a scene. It’s for filmmakers and photographers who want a deliberate streak effect in the frame, rather than a plain image of the light source. Think night streets, stage lighting or a strong practical light in a darker scene. The effect depends on having a bright point of light to work with, so it won’t transform a frame with no such source. Its 4x4 format and 1 mm designation identify this specific filter; choose it when that streak treatment is the look you want, not as a general-purpose filter. It’s a focused creative tool, best used with intent.
Specialist Note
For a night scene with one bright sign or lamp in the frame, I’d reach for the 1 mm Streak when I want that source to read as a deliberate visual accent. Keep the point light clearly visible and compose around it; that gives the streak effect something distinct to work from. The 4x4 format suits a square-filter workflow, so it makes sense if that’s already how you work on set. I’d use it for city details or a performance with bright stage lights, then keep other highlights in mind so the effect doesn’t take over the image. It’s a specific look, not an everyday filter.
