Tiffen 45650PL1 4x5.650 Plum 1 Filter
Tiffen 45650PL1 4x5.650 Plum 1 Filter | Add a plum-toned colour treatment
The Tiffen 45650PL1 4x5.650 Plum 1 Filter is a 4x5.650-format filter for image-makers who want to introduce a plum colour effect into their work. Its Plum 1 designation identifies the look: a deliberate colour treatment, rather than a neutral filter for correcting light. It suits photographers and filmmakers working with this filter format who want to shape the mood of a scene through colour. Consider it for portraits where a plum cast is part of the styling, or for a scene where you want colour to feel intentionally expressive. The result depends on the colours already in the frame, so it’s worth previewing the effect in context before settling on a final look. This is a specialist creative filter, best chosen for a specific visual intention rather than kept on the lens as an everyday neutral option.
Think of the Plum 1 as a colour decision made during image-making. It gives you a named, repeatable effect to plan around, which can be useful when you want a consistent visual direction across a sequence. The 4x5.650 format also makes the dimensions an important part of your selection: match that format to the filter setup you use. No particular holder or camera system is specified here, so choose it by the format and the colour effect you need.
Specialist Note
On a portrait set with a softly coloured backdrop, the Plum 1 earns its place when you want the colour to feel like part of the lighting design. I’d consider it for a carefully styled portrait, or for adding a deliberate plum note to a scene, then judge the result against the actual colours in frame. The “1” is the grade named in this filter’s title; it’s a useful detail when you’re planning around this particular effect, not a reason to assume every scene will respond the same way. The 4x5.650 format matters too: make sure that’s the filter format your setup calls for. It’s a creative choice, not a neutral correction filter.
