Tiffen 4565BSG3 4x5.650 Black Soft Glow 3 Filter
Tiffen 4565BSG3 4x5.650 Black Soft Glow 3 Filter | A deliberate glow for cinematic images
The 4 x 5.650-inch format is the defining design choice: it gives the Tiffen Black Soft Glow 3 a wide rectangular shape rather than a circular screw-in format. That size suits a cinema-style workflow, where a filter is chosen for a particular shot and used as part of the imaging setup. The Black Soft Glow name describes the creative direction: a softened, glowing character rather than a neutral effect. Grade 3 identifies the strength you’re selecting, making this a considered option for filmmakers and image-makers who want the filter’s character to play a visible part in the finished look. It’s especially relevant when shaping portraits, beauty scenes or shots with bright sources in the frame. This is a specialist effect filter; choose it when you want a glow treatment in the image, rather than a filter intended to leave the look unchanged.
Specialist Note
For filmmakers shooting close portraits or scenes with bright practical lights, this filter is for making glow part of the image itself. I’d consider it when you want a deliberate, softened character in a face or around a light source, rather than a strictly neutral rendering. The 4 x 5.650-inch format is rectangular, so think of it as part of a cinema-style filter setup, not a screw-in lens filter. Grade 3 is the strength of this version: choose it when that specific treatment suits the shot, rather than expecting a barely-there correction. It’s a focused creative tool, and it won’t suit every scene.
