Tiffen 66POL 6x6 Linear Polarizer
Tiffen 66POL 6x6 Linear Polarizer | Reduce reflections and reveal detail
To reduce reflections and bring more definition to a scene, a polarizing filter lets you manage reflected light without changing your composition. The Tiffen 66POL 6x6 Linear Polarizer is a square-format filter for photographers and image-makers working with a compatible 6x6 setup. Adjust its orientation while viewing the scene and reflections on glass, water or glossy foliage can become less prominent, revealing detail that glare was hiding. In the right light and from a suitable angle, a polarizer can also deepen the appearance of a blue sky and bring more colour into a washed-out view. It’s particularly useful for photographing windows, water surfaces and foliage when reflected light competes with your subject. The linear designation matters: take the filter’s effect on your camera’s metering and focusing arrangement into account when choosing where to use it. The result depends on the light and your angle to the reflective surface, so it won’t remove every reflection.
Specialist Note
The broad, square 6x6 face gives you room to position the filter in a matching setup, which is handy when you need control over reflections across a considered composition. I’d use this linear polarizer for details behind shop-window glass or to calm glare on a pond: adjust its orientation as you watch the reflected area, and stop when the subject shows through clearly. It can also help give a blue sky more depth, though the result changes with your shooting angle. Its linear design is the point to think through with your camera’s metering and focusing system; it’s best suited to setups that work correctly with a linear polarizer.
