Tiffen FW1STR42 Filter Wheel 1 Star 4PT 2mm
Tiffen FW1STR42 Filter Wheel 1 Star 4PT 2mm | Add four-point stars
Bright points of light can become crisp, four-point stars in your pictures with the Tiffen FW1STR42 Filter Wheel 1 Star 4PT 2mm. It’s a specialist-effect filter for photographers who want to give small highlights a more graphic look, rather than leave them as plain points. The 4PT designation describes the star pattern it’s intended to produce. Try it with lamps in a night scene, or with a bright reflection in a portrait, and compose so the highlight is easy to pick out against its surroundings. That gives the effect room to read clearly. This filter is at its best when the scene has distinct bright points; in evenly lit scenes, there may be little for the star effect to work on. If you enjoy shaping the character of highlights in-camera, this Tiffen offers a direct way to explore that look.
Specialist Note
4PT means the highlights are shaped into four-point stars, so a small light can become a deliberate feature in the frame. I’d use that effect for night-time lamps or a bright catchlight in a portrait: keep the source clearly visible in your composition, with enough darker area around it for the points to show. The 1 Star designation identifies this as a single star-effect style, which suits you if you want that specific look rather than a busier pattern. The 2mm marking helps distinguish this version when you’re comparing product names. One thing to bear in mind: the effect needs bright points of light to show; it won’t add much to a scene without them.
