Tiffen SIGSMQ14 ARRI Signature Prime Smoque 1/4 Rear Filter
Tiffen SIGSMQ14 ARRI Signature Prime Smoque 1/4 Rear Filter | A subtle smoky look from the rear
The Tiffen SIGSMQ14 is a 1/4 Smoque filter made for rear placement on ARRI Signature Prime lenses. That combination gives cinematographers a way to bring a smoky atmosphere into the image using a filter at the rear of the lens. It suits film crews and cinematographers who want to shape a scene’s mood in camera, especially for narrative work, music videos or commercial scenes where a clean, neutral image isn’t the goal. The 1/4 strength makes this a considered choice when you want the Smoque treatment to have a measured presence rather than dominate the frame. It can help give a portrait or an atmospheric establishing shot a more evocative feel. Think of it as a creative look filter, not a UV filter or a general-purpose protective filter; its appeal is the specific visual effect and the rear-filter format for ARRI Signature Prime lenses.
Specialist Note
The Tiffen SIGSMQ14 is for giving ARRI Signature Prime footage a controlled Smoque look. Its 1/4 strength is a good place to start when you want atmosphere to register without making the effect the whole subject. For a close portrait, use it when you want the image to feel less crisp and clinical; for a wider scene, it can help set a smoky mood across the frame. This is a rear filter, so it’s designed around the ARRI Signature Prime system rather than a general front-filter setup. I’d choose it for a deliberate visual treatment, not when the brief calls for a clean, neutral image.
