Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 0.9
Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 0.9 | Three stops of light control
The Tokina Pro IRND 0.9 is a gray neutral-density filter for controlling the light that reaches your camera. It suits photographers who want more freedom over shutter speed or aperture when the scene is bright. That control can help you use a slower shutter to soften the movement of water, or keep a wider aperture for a shallower depth of field without letting too much light into the exposure. It’s a practical tool when changing the camera settings alone won’t give you the look you want. The Pro IRND name identifies this as an infrared neutral-density filter, while the 0.9 rating gives its light reduction a specific strength. Choose it for deliberate exposure control, rather than as a general-purpose protective filter. Its size also makes it a specialist fit: the 112mm format is intended for lenses that accept that filter size.
Specialist Note
0.9 means three stops less light in practice, giving you room to slow the shutter without changing the scene’s brightness. For example, if your unfiltered exposure is 1/125 sec, the same aperture and ISO call for about 1/15 sec with this filter. That’s useful when you want flowing water to blur rather than freeze; it also gives you three stops of extra room to open the aperture in bright conditions. The 112mm size is the other key detail: match it to a lens that accepts 112mm filters. I’d recommend it to someone who needs that strength and size, but it won’t fit a lens with a smaller filter size directly.
