Tokina 77.0mm Hydrophilic
Tokina 77.0mm Hydrophilic | A hydrophilic filter for damp conditions
When moisture on a filter risks interrupting a shot, a hydrophilic surface is intended to help water spread rather than sit in separate beads. The Tokina 77.0mm Hydrophilic is a color filter with a 77.0mm size and a hydrophilic designation. It suits photographers who specifically need this filter type and size, particularly when working in damp conditions and wanting moisture to spread across the surface. That behavior is the point of the hydrophilic name; it isn’t a promise that the filter will stay clear in every situation. The size is also a practical part of the choice: it gives you a clear reference when selecting a filter for equipment with a matching filter thread. If you’re shopping by a particular diameter or hydrophilic design, this Tokina is a focused option rather than a filter with a broad set of stated effects.
Specialist Note
Water beading across a filter can break your view at exactly the wrong moment; that’s the problem this hydrophilic design is meant to address. The term describes a surface that attracts water, encouraging it to spread into a film instead of forming separate droplets. I’d consider it for damp outdoor work where occasional moisture is part of the conditions, while remembering that it doesn’t make the filter immune to water or remove the need to keep it clean. The 77.0mm size gives you a specific sizing reference, so match it to a lens with the corresponding filter thread. It’s best suited to someone who needs that size and wants this particular hydrophilic approach.
