Tokina Cinema 11-20mm T2.9 PL
Tokina Cinema 11-20mm T2.9 PL | Wide framing with room to tighten
The Tokina Cinema 11-20mm T2.9 PL is a wide-angle zoom that gives filmmakers a useful range of framing without changing lenses. It suits cinematographers and video crews working on scenes where space is limited or the frame needs to shift from expansive to more contained. At 11mm, you can include more of a location; zooming toward 20mm lets you tighten the composition while staying on the same lens. That makes it particularly useful for interiors, location coverage and establishing shots where repositioning the camera isn’t always practical. Its cinema-focused design is for video and filmmaking, with a PL mount and manual focus. If your work calls for controlled focus and flexible wide-angle framing, this Tokina offers a straightforward tool for shaping the shot. It’s a specialised lens rather than an all-purpose option, so its appeal is strongest when wide coverage is central to the job.
Specialist Note
T2.9 gives you a bright working aperture, which can be helpful when you’re filming an interior and want to keep the scene’s available light in play. I’d use 11mm to establish the full room, then ease toward 20mm to bring attention to a person or detail without changing lenses. Manual focus suits a crew that wants to plan and control focus pulls rather than leave them to the camera. The PL mount makes it a natural fit for a PL-mount cinema setup. It’s a focused tool: if your shots rarely need a wide view, this zoom’s range may be more specialised than you need.
