Tokina Cinema 18mm T1.5 (EF) | Wide views with a bright aperture

Give interiors and establishing shots a wide, open feel with the Tokina Cinema 18mm T1.5 (EF). This interchangeable ultra-wide prime is made for video and filmmaking, where a broad view can help show a location or keep more of a scene in frame. Its T1.5 maximum aperture gives you room to work in lower light without immediately raising your camera’s ISO, and it offers a bright setting when you want more control over exposure. The Canon EF mount makes it a lens to consider for a compatible Canon EF setup. It’s a focused tool for filmmakers who prefer to set focus themselves and shape each shot deliberately. Choose it for wide compositions, rather than as an all-purpose focal length: its viewpoint is best used when the scene needs space.

Specialist Note

18mm gives you a broad view that’s useful when a room or location needs to read clearly in one shot. I’d use it for an interior establishing frame, keeping the camera level and composing carefully so the wide perspective feels intentional. T1.5 gives you a bright exposure setting for dimmer scenes; if you’re filming a quiet dialogue moment, it can help you avoid raising ISO straight away. Manual focus suits a considered approach, especially when you want to set a focus point before a take. On a Canon APS-C (EF-S) body, the framing is comparable to 28.8mm on full frame. Its wide view won’t suit every close-up, so I’d pair it with a tighter focal length for coverage.
