Urth 39mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 39mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ | A softer glow for highlights
Bright points of light can look gentler, with a soft glow around them, while the scene keeps its overall shape. The Urth 39mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ is a diffusion filter for photographers who want that softened rendering in-camera rather than adding it later. Its ¼ strength gives you a named, specific level of diffusion to work with; the White Mist effect suits portraits, evening scenes and other images where hard highlights feel a little too crisp. The 39mm size is for a lens with a matching filter thread, so it’s worth checking the diameter printed on your lens before choosing it. This filter is most appealing when you want a visible change in the character of light, but still want to make the picture yourself. If you prefer every highlight to stay clean and sharply defined, a mist filter may not suit your style.
Specialist Note
New mist-filter owners can expect the filter to blur the whole picture; the aim here is a softer character to light, not an out-of-focus image. The ¼ strength gives you a clear starting point for that look, especially for portraits or night scenes with small lights in the frame. I’d use it on a 39mm-thread lens, then compose so a bright source sits where you want the glow to appear. That thread size is quite specific, so it suits photographers who already own a lens with that marking. One honest point: if you want a completely untouched rendering of highlights, this isn’t the filter I’d reach for.
