Urth 58mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 58mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ | A gentle glow in-camera
Without a mist filter, bright points of light can look crisp and stark in a photograph. The Urth 58mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ is designed to soften that rendering, giving highlights a gentle glow while keeping the scene recognisable. It suits photographers who want a more atmospheric look as they shoot, rather than adding the effect later in editing. Try it for a window-lit portrait, where bright light in the frame can lend the image a softer mood, or for evening scenes with lamps and other highlights. The ¼ strength offers a subtle starting point for this look; it isn’t meant to turn every frame into heavy haze. The 58mm size is the key fit detail: it’s for a lens with a matching 58mm filter thread. If you prefer crisp, high-contrast rendering in every situation, this effect may not be for you.
Specialist Note
For a window-lit portrait, I’d start with the Ethereal at ¼ strength and let a bright window sit near the edge of the frame. That’s where a soft highlight glow can add atmosphere without making the whole image feel foggy. The 58mm size matters in day-to-day use: it needs a lens with a matching 58mm filter thread, so check the marking on the lens rather than guessing from the camera body. I’d recommend it to someone who enjoys a gentler, more cinematic feel in portraits or evening street scenes. One honest caveat: it softens the rendering, so it’s a less natural fit when you want every bright detail to stay crisp.
