Urth 62mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 62mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ | A softer, dreamier image
Urth 62mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ has a magnetic design for photographers who want to add a soft, atmospheric look to their images. It’s made for portrait makers, filmmakers and still photographers drawn to gentle highlight bloom rather than a completely crisp, clinical finish. A black mist filter softens the appearance of bright highlights and reduces some of the sharp edge in contrast, giving light sources a subtle glow and skin a softer rendering. Try it with a backlit portrait, or include bright signs and lamps in a night scene to make their glow part of the picture. The effect is creative, not neutral: it changes how the image looks, so it may not suit every subject or style. This is a filter to choose for its distinctive mood, rather than leave on when you want the cleanest possible rendering.
Specialist Note
Portrait photographers and night-scene shooters are the people I’d point toward this filter when they want highlights to feel less hard. With a backlit portrait, keep a bright window or lamp in the frame and let the Black Mist effect soften its edge; for a night street scene, use illuminated signs as visible points of glow. The magnetic format is handy when you want to move between that softer look and a cleaner image during a shoot. Do match the 62mm size to a lens marked 62mm. One honest caveat: the effect is part of the image, so it won’t suit every scene if you’re after crisp, restrained rendering.
