Urth 67mm Ethereal 1 Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 67mm Ethereal 1 Black Mist Filter Plus+ | Softer highlights, atmospheric images
The defining design choice is the Black Mist treatment: it softens the edge of bright highlights, giving light sources and reflective skin a gentler, more atmospheric presence in the frame. Urth names this version Ethereal 1, and the 67mm size is for lenses with a matching 67mm filter thread. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want diffusion while composing in camera, especially for portraits, music videos and evening scenes with point lights. The effect is visible across the image, so it’s best when a softened rendering is part of the look rather than when you need maximum crispness and contrast. Keep the filter on for a consistent misted character across a sequence, or remove it when you want a cleaner rendering. It’s a direct way to shape highlight character at the point of capture, rather than adding that look in an edit.
Specialist Note
It changes the feel of a shot straight away, with no extra step in editing: bright points take on a softer, more atmospheric presence. The 67mm marking gives you a simple fit check—match it to a lens with a 67mm filter thread. For portraits, keep the filter on when you want gentle highlight bloom around backlit hair or bright reflections; for an evening scene, point sources of light make the Black Mist character easy to see. Ethereal 1 is the version name, while Black Mist describes the look you’re choosing. One honest consideration: that diffusion also softens the overall rendering, so I’d take it off when crisp contrast matters more than atmosphere.
