Urth 72mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 72mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ | Softer highlights, in camera
Bright shop signs, streetlights or a window catching the sun can pull attention away from a portrait. The Urth 72mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ is made to soften that kind of bright highlight and give it a gentle bloom in the image. It’s a creative filter for photographers and filmmakers who want that softer, atmospheric look while capturing, rather than adding it later in editing. The 72mm size identifies the filter diameter, so it belongs in a setup that takes 72mm filters. Its magnetic design is intended for a filter workflow where you want to put the effect in place or remove it as your scene changes. Black Mist filters are a considered look, not a correction: they alter the rendering of bright areas, so this one suits portraits, night scenes and other images where a little softness is welcome. If you want highlights to stay crisp and untouched, a clear filter is the better direction.
Specialist Note
This Urth filter gives bright highlights a softer bloom in-camera, rather than asking you to build that look afterwards. I’d suggest it for a portrait with a bright window behind the subject, or for night scenes with lit signs in the frame; expose for the face or main subject and let the brightest points carry the glow. The magnetic format makes it easier to bring that effect in or take it away as the light changes. Its 72mm diameter is the detail to match to your filter setup, so it’s worth checking the size of the lens you plan to use it on. One honest point: the softening is part of the captured image, so this isn’t the filter for a clean, clinical rendering.
