Westcott 10" X 24" Strip Rapid Box

Westcott 10" X 24" Strip Rapid Box | A narrow source for controlled light

For a slim, softened highlight along a subject, a strip softbox gives you a narrower source to position beside or behind the scene. The Westcott 10" X 24" Strip Rapid Box is a strip-format softbox, with a 10-by-24-inch size that suits setups where a broad light source would spill across too much of the frame. It can help shape an edge of light on a portrait, pick out the side of a product, or add a defined highlight to a still life. The result depends on where you place it and how you balance it with the rest of your lighting; the modifier won’t make those choices for you. That’s part of the appeal: you can work with a deliberately narrow area of softened light rather than lighting the whole subject evenly. It’s a focused tool for photographers who want more say over where the light lands.

Working with a strip softbox

A strip shape is useful when you want light to run along a subject instead of washing over its front. Move it closer or farther away, and adjust its angle to change how much of the subject catches the light. For portraits, that might mean a slim highlight at the edge of a face or shoulder; for a product, a bright line can describe a curved or polished surface. Keep an eye on the background, too: small changes in placement can alter where the spill falls. One honest point: a narrow source rewards careful aiming. If you’re after broad, even coverage, this isn’t the shape to reach for first. But when the frame calls for a controlled strip of light, its 10-by-24-inch proportions give you a clear starting point.
