AstrHori MF 9 mm f/2.8 APS-C Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens For Sony E-Mount | Wide views with manual focus

Instead of stepping back to fit a whole building or broad landscape into the frame, this AstrHori gives you a very wide view from where you’re standing. It’s a manual-focus prime lens for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras, with a 9mm focal length and a 115° angle of view. That makes it especially suited to landscapes, architecture and night-sky photography, where including more of the scene can matter more than isolating a distant detail. On a Sony APS-C body, its framing is equivalent to 13.5mm on full frame. Manual focus asks you to take a little more care with focusing, but it also gives you direct control when composing a static subject. For buildings, pay attention to camera position: moving close to a wall or aiming upward can make lines appear to converge. This is a focused tool for wide compositions, rather than an everyday lens for every kind of subject.

Specialist Note

“Is the AstrHori 9mm f/2.8 a good fit for photographing stars?” Yes, if you’re happy to focus manually and want a wide slice of sky in the frame. The f/2.8 maximum aperture lets in more light than a slower setting would, so I’d start with it wide open, try a 10-second exposure at ISO 1600, then adjust after checking the result. For architecture, take a moment to level the camera and place important vertical lines deliberately; the 115° view takes in plenty, including distractions near the edges. It suits patient landscape and architecture photographers too. Just bear in mind that its very wide framing rewards careful composition, and it’s less suited to picking out distant details.
