Tilta MB-T17-S136 Mirage Pro Matte Box Starter Kit 136mm Backing
Tilta MB-T17-S136 Mirage Pro Matte Box Starter Kit 136mm Backing | Control stray light at the lens
Keep stray light from washing across the image, and you can hold onto clearer contrast in tricky lighting. The Tilta MB-T17-S136 Mirage Pro Matte Box Starter Kit is a lens accessory for filmmakers who want more control over light near the front of their setup. It’s most useful when a bright source sits just outside the frame or when light is hitting the lens at an awkward angle. A matte box helps shield the lens from that unwanted light, giving you a more considered image and less distraction while framing. The 136mm backing makes this a size-specific option, so the key practical question is whether that backing suits the lens setup you plan to use. If you’re building a cinema-style rig and want a matte box identified by its backing size, this Tilta kit gives you a clear starting point without relying on a vague, one-size-fits-all description.
Specialist Note
136mm is the backing size to keep in mind: in practice, it makes the fit of your lens setup the first thing to consider. The “Starter Kit” name positions this as a way into the Mirage Pro matte box system, rather than just a generic lens hood. I’d look at it for a backlit interview or a location shot with bright light near the edge of frame; place the matte box to shade the lens while you compose, and you can work on keeping stray light off the image. It suits filmmakers assembling a rig around this specific backing size. The honest limitation is that 136mm is a size-specific choice, not a universal fit.
