Sirui 35mm f/1.8 Anamorphic Lens 1.33X (MFT-Mount)
Sirui 35mm f/1.8 Anamorphic Lens 1.33X (MFT-Mount) | Give MFT footage a widescreen look
On an interview shoot where you want a cinematic widescreen frame, this Sirui anamorphic lens gives you a different route from simply cropping the image. It’s an interchangeable 35mm lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras, with a 1.33X anamorphic design that records a squeezed image for desqueezing in post-production. That makes it particularly suited to filmmakers who want to shape the frame around a subject while retaining the horizontal view the anamorphic format provides. The f/1.8 maximum aperture is useful when you’re working with available light, and the lens also suits carefully framed details and narrative scenes. It’s a specialist video lens rather than an everyday all-purpose option: the anamorphic look asks for a post-production workflow that can desqueeze the footage. If that’s part of your process, it gives you a distinct widescreen tool on an MFT setup.
Specialist Note
The Sirui 35mm f/1.8 Anamorphic gives an MFT interview a widescreen feel without relying on a crop to create that shape. I’d point it toward filmmakers planning interviews or close detail shots, where the 1.33X squeeze can help give the frame a more cinematic composition after desqueezing. Its f/1.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work when the available light is limited; open it up when you need that extra light. On Micro Four Thirds, 35mm corresponds to about 70mm in full-frame-equivalent terms for conventional framing, so expect a tighter view rather than a wide establishing shot. It’s best paired with a workflow that handles anamorphic desqueezing.
