SmallRig 1798 Baseplate w/ Dual 15mm Rod Clamp
SmallRig 1798 Baseplate w/ Dual 15mm Rod Clamp | A base for a two-rod camera rig
A camera setup built around rods needs a base that brings the parts together without making the tripod side of the rig an afterthought. The SmallRig 1798 combines a baseplate with a dual 15mm rod clamp, giving you a defined starting point for a setup built around two 15mm rods. It’s a tripod accessory for filmmakers and camera operators who want to organise a rod-based rig around their camera, rather than build from separate pieces with no shared base. The useful part is the combination: the baseplate forms the platform, while the clamp is made for a pair of 15mm rods. That makes this a straightforward option when a project calls for a two-rod layout and a tripod accessory in the same rig. It’s best suited to planned, rod-based setups; it isn’t a general-purpose tripod head or a complete camera rig.
Specialist Note
This isn’t a complete rig on its own, so you’ll need the rest of your setup around it. The reason I’d still consider it is that the baseplate and dual 15mm rod clamp are brought together in one accessory, giving a two-rod build a clear base. It suits operators who already know they want to work with two 15mm rods, whether they’re assembling a camera setup for tripod work or organising a compact rod-based rig. Start by planning the camera and rods as one layout, then use this as the base for that arrangement. If your setup doesn’t call for two 15mm rods, this specific clamp design may be more than you need.
