7Artisans 49mm True Colour CPL Filter
7Artisans 49mm True Colour CPL Filter | Reduce reflections and deepen skies
Reflections on water or glass can hide the detail you wanted to photograph, while a pale sky can look flat beside the landscape. A circular polarising filter helps control those reflections and can give skies more depth. The 7Artisans True Colour CPL is a 49mm filter for photographers who want that effect without relying on software to recreate it later. It’s most useful outdoors, where you can turn the filter and watch the change through your camera as you compose. That makes it easier to choose a natural-looking level of polarisation rather than simply applying the strongest effect. Use it for scenes with reflective surfaces or a sky you want to define more clearly. The result depends on the light and your angle to the scene, so it’s a considered tool rather than a filter to leave on for every shot.
When a CPL earns its place
Try it when reflections are taking attention away from what’s beneath the surface of a pond, or when a blue sky needs more separation from the landscape. Rotate the filter while watching the image, and stop when the reflections or sky look right to you. The effect changes with your position relative to the light, so small adjustments to your framing can make a difference.
Specialist Note
A polariser reduces the light reaching your camera, so I wouldn’t leave this on for every indoor or low-light scene. For outdoor work, though, the 49mm size gives you a clear fit reference: it suits a lens with a matching 49mm filter thread. The “True Colour” name makes this an appealing option if you want polarisation while keeping colour looking natural. I’d use it for reflections in a shop window or for a landscape with a washed-out sky; rotate it as you compose, and choose the point where the reflection eases or the sky gains depth without looking overdone.
