7Artisans 55mm True Colour CPL Filter
7Artisans 55mm True Colour CPL Filter | Manage glare and reflections
Reflections on water or glass can obscure the detail you want, while a bright sky may look washed out. The 7Artisans 55mm True Colour CPL Filter is a circular polarising filter: used correctly, a CPL can reduce certain reflections and deepen the appearance of a blue sky. It’s suited to photographers who want a hands-on way to control those effects while framing, rather than fixing every reflection later in editing. The name’s “True Colour” wording signals an emphasis on colour, though the result still depends on the light and the angle you’re shooting from. A polariser won’t remove every reflection, and its effect changes as you adjust it. For outdoor scenes with water, glass or open sky in the frame, that control can make a visible difference to what comes through.
Using a CPL filter
For a sky, the polarising effect is generally strongest when you’re shooting at roughly a right angle to the sun. Look through the camera as you slowly turn the filter and watch the sky or reflections change; stop when the effect looks right. With water or glass, this lets you judge how much reflection to retain instead of treating complete removal as the goal. The effect varies with the scene, so a small adjustment can be worth making before you take the picture.
Specialist Note
A CPL won’t wipe away every reflection, so I’d choose this for control rather than expecting a guaranteed clear view through glass. The 55mm marking matters at the front of your lens: it’s intended for a lens with a matching 55mm filter thread. “True Colour” is a helpful pointer to the product’s aim, but colour and polarising effects still depend on the light. I’d suggest it to someone who often photographs water or shop windows; rotate the filter while looking at the scene and stop when you’ve reduced the glare without losing the reflections you want to keep.
