B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 67mm
B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 67mm | Gentle highlight bloom for a softer look
For portraits and night scenes where bright points of light feel too sharp, a Black Mist filter gives the image a softer highlight bloom and a gentler overall impression. The B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 67mm is a 1/4-strength effect filter for photographers and filmmakers who want that look in-camera, rather than adding it later. Use it for a subtle glow around practical lights in a night scene, or to take some of the crispness out of a portrait while keeping the subject recognisable. The 1/4 strength gives you a defined effect without making the look as pronounced as a stronger mist effect. It’s a considered creative choice, so it won’t suit every scene: for clean, high-contrast detail without a softened rendering, leave it off. The 67mm size identifies the filter diameter to match with a lens’s filter thread.
Specialist Note
Hard pinpoints of light can make a portrait or night scene feel a little clinical; this filter is for easing that edge without hiding the scene in haze. The 1/4 rating is the detail I’d focus on: it gives you a restrained mist effect, so try it with a face framed by small lights or with streetlights in the background. Its 67mm size matters when choosing a filter for a lens: the lens needs a matching 67mm filter thread for it to fit. I’d suggest it to someone who wants a softer, more atmospheric rendering straight from the camera. It’s a deliberate look, though, and crisp, untouched rendering may suit some subjects better.
