B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 72mm
B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 72mm | A gentle bloom around highlights
Without a filter, bright point lights and reflections keep their crisp edges; camera settings can’t create the same optical bloom. The B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO is a creative filter for photographers and filmmakers who want a softer, more atmospheric rendering. It gently spreads highlights and takes some of the edge off contrast, while retaining the scene’s overall shape and detail. That makes it especially suited to portraits, backlit subjects and scenes with visible lights, where a little glow can change the mood without making the whole image look hazy. The 1/4 strength gives you a restrained look to build into the shot, rather than an effect that has to be added later. Choose it for a consistent softening of highlights across a sequence; leave it off when you want a clean, crisp rendering.
Specialist Note
One limit to keep in mind: the 1/4 Black Mist effect is part of the image, so it won’t suit every shot where you want crisp, unaltered highlights. That’s also why I’d choose this strength for portraits or a night street scene: faces get a gentler feel, while lamps and signs can take on a restrained bloom. The 72mm size fits a lens with a 72mm filter thread, so match the size to the lens you plan to use. I’d keep it on for a sequence with the same look, then remove it when you want clean highlights again.
