Caruba EW 88E for Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM | A focused 70mm view for portraits and events

Without a short-telephoto lens, getting a closer portrait or isolating a moment at an event can mean moving in or cropping later. This interchangeable lens gives Canon RF users a dedicated short-telephoto view, suited to photographers who want people and details to take the lead in the frame. It’s especially at home with portraits and events, where a tighter composition can help keep attention on your subject. Autofocus is useful when expressions or moments change quickly, and optical stabilisation can help reduce camera shake when you’re shooting handheld. This is a focused tool rather than a wide-ranging zoom: its appeal is the perspective it brings to portraits and event coverage. If you often photograph gatherings, ceremonies or head-and-shoulders portraits, it gives you a clear reason to choose a dedicated short-telephoto lens.

Specialist Note

The fixed view is a real limitation in a tight room; you can’t zoom out to reframe. I’d still recommend it when portraits and event moments are the priority, because the 70mm framing gives you room to make a deliberate, tighter composition. For a head-and-shoulders portrait, try f/2.8 to let the background recede; at an event, that wide aperture can also help you keep shutter speeds up as the light drops. On a Canon RF-S body, 70mm frames like 112mm on full frame, so allow more working distance. It suits someone who knows they want that close, portrait-friendly view.
