Caruba Pro Grid For Quick Softbox MkII 180cm

Caruba Pro Grid For Quick Softbox MkII 180cm | Keep light more focused

A more controlled patch of light is the point of adding a grid to a softbox. The Caruba Pro Grid is named for the Quick Softbox MkII 180cm, so it’s for photographers using that softbox who want to limit how widely its light spreads. That can help keep illumination on the subject rather than spilling as freely into the rest of the scene. It’s a considered addition for portrait work or other setups where the direction and reach of the light matter. The honest appeal is a straightforward one: this is a grid for a specific, named softbox, not a general-purpose lighting accessory. If that’s the softbox in your kit, this gives you a way to work with a more contained spread of light. The 180cm reference belongs to the softbox name; it isn’t a stated measurement for the grid itself.

When a grid makes sense

Soft light can still reach areas you’d rather leave darker. A grid is useful when you want to keep that light from spreading as broadly, for example when shaping a portrait or separating a lit area from its surroundings. The effect depends on your subject, distance and setup, so it’s worth thinking about the look you want rather than expecting the grid to change the character of every scene in the same way. This model’s name points to the Caruba Pro Quick Softbox MkII 180cm, making that pairing the key detail when choosing it. If your lighting plan calls for a broad, open spread, a grid may not be the control you’re after. But when you want a more directed result from that softbox, this is the purpose-built option to consider.
