Cokin Filter A057 Star 4
Cokin Filter A057 Star 4 | Add four-point sparkle to bright highlights
As evening lights begin to glow, a bright lamp or reflection can become more than just a point in the frame. The Cokin Filter A057 Star 4 is a color filter designed to give bright highlights a four-point star effect, bringing a more graphic, deliberate look to scenes with small light sources. It suits photographers who want to make those highlights part of the composition, rather than leave them as ordinary bright spots. Think night streets, decorative lighting or sunlight catching on a reflective surface. The effect depends on having distinct bright points in the scene; without them, there’s little for the filter’s star pattern to emphasise. That makes it a specialist creative filter, rather than an everyday choice for every photograph. If you enjoy shaping the mood of a scene in-camera, this is the kind of filter to reach for when the light itself deserves attention.
Specialist Note
The four-point star in the name is the detail to keep in mind: this filter turns strong points of light into a defined graphic feature. The A057 designation identifies this particular Cokin filter, while its Star 4 effect is what gives it a clear creative purpose. I’d suggest it to someone who enjoys night scenes or wants to make festive lights more expressive; frame a few bright lamps against a darker setting so the star shapes read clearly. Reflections can work too, provided they’re bright and compact. It’s a deliberate look, so I wouldn’t use it when you want highlights to stay understated.
