Formatt Hitech Firecrest 82mm Superslim UV IR Cut
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 82mm Superslim UV IR Cut | Slim spectral filtering
The defining choice here is the superslim profile: it keeps the filter’s rim low at the front of the lens. Formatt Hitech pairs that design with UV/IR-cut filtering for photographers who want to limit those parts of the spectrum while shooting. It’s a specialist filter rather than an effect filter, with a clear purpose in its name. That makes it worth considering for daylight landscapes or architecture when filtering UV and infrared light is part of your approach. The 82mm designation is the filter diameter, so it’s suited to a lens with a matching filter size. For a photographer building a considered filter kit, this model keeps the brief straightforward: a slim-profile filter for UV/IR cutting. It doesn’t promise a particular colour shift or a change in contrast; its stated role is to cut UV and IR.
Specialist Note
Photographers framing daylight landscapes or carefully composed architecture are the ones I’d point towards this filter. Its UV/IR-cut function is the reason to choose it: fit it when limiting those wavelengths is part of the result you’re after, rather than expecting it to add an effect such as polarisation. The superslim profile keeps the filter’s front rim restrained, which makes sense if you prefer a neat, low-profile setup. Match its 82mm diameter to the filter size your lens takes, then use it for the scenes where that spectral filtering suits your process. One honest point: it’s a specialised tool, so it’s best bought for that specific purpose, not as a general-purpose image effect.
