Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 39mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 39mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter | Make small exposure adjustments
Choosing a neutral-density design is the defining optical decision: it lets you reduce the light reaching the camera without changing the light in the scene. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND filter suits photographers who want more control over exposure while keeping their composition and lighting as they are. It can help when you want a slower shutter speed for a hint of movement in a landscape, or need to adjust exposure while working with a fixed lighting setup. Its modest reduction is useful when you only need a small change, rather than a much stronger cut in light. That makes it a practical option for fine adjustments to shutter speed or aperture. It won’t create the long exposures associated with stronger ND filters, but for a measured change to exposure, that restraint is the point.
Specialist Note
Photographers who work with landscapes or carefully controlled portraits may find this filter’s one-stop reduction handy. The ND 0.3 rating means it halves the light reaching the camera, so at the same aperture and ISO you could change a shutter speed from 1/250 sec to 1/125 sec. That’s a modest shift for capturing a little more movement in a scene, or opening the aperture by one stop for a portrait. The 39mm diameter is a specific size, so it suits a setup that takes a 39mm filter rather than being a general-purpose fit. Its limit is equally clear: one stop won’t deliver a very long daylight exposure.
