Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 0.9 (3stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 0.9 (3stops) Filter | Three stops of exposure control
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 49mm ND 0.9 (3stops) Filter reduces the light reaching your camera by three stops, giving you more control over shutter speed or aperture in bright conditions. It suits photographers using a lens with a 49mm filter thread who want to manage motion or keep a wider aperture without changing the scene’s lighting. Moving water can take on a softer look, while passing clouds show more movement. You can also use the light reduction to retain a chosen aperture in daylight rather than stopping down as far. Its fixed strength makes the effect straightforward to plan around: meter the scene, then compensate by three stops when setting your exposure. This filter is best when that measured reduction is enough; it won’t, by itself, turn every bright daytime scene into a very long exposure.
Specialist Note
Photographers who frame streams, fountains or drifting clouds can use this filter to give movement a little more time in the frame. Its 49mm size is for lenses with a matching filter thread, so it’s worth checking the lens marking before choosing it. The ND 0.9 rating means a three-stop reduction: for example, if your meter reads 1/125 sec, keeping the same aperture and ISO brings you to about 1/15 sec. That can soften moving water without changing your composition. It also suits outdoor portraits when you want a wider aperture in bright light. One honest limit: three stops is a moderate reduction, not a shortcut to very long daylight exposures.
