Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 52mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 52mm ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter | Make a small, controlled exposure adjustment
Without a filter, you usually manage exposure by changing your camera settings. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 0.3 reduces the light reaching the camera by one stop, giving you a little more room to choose your shutter speed or aperture. It’s a subtle adjustment rather than a strong light cut, which makes it useful when you want to retain your chosen settings but need to reduce exposure slightly. For example, at the same aperture and ISO, you could change a shutter speed of 1/60 sec to 1/30 sec to compensate for the filter and allow a touch more motion blur. The 52mm size is for setups using a matching filter size. This filter suits photographers who want a straightforward, measured change in exposure, such as when making a modest shutter-speed adjustment in brighter light. Its one-stop reduction is deliberately restrained; it won’t create the pronounced long-exposure effects that need a much stronger ND filter.
Specialist Note
“Is this 52mm Firecrest filter strong enough for long exposures?” For a dramatic long exposure in daylight, no; its one-stop reduction is modest. I’d consider it when you only need a small exposure shift and want to keep your preferred aperture. The 52mm size means it’s suited to a lens with a matching filter thread, so check that measurement on the lens you plan to use. ND 0.3 cuts the light by one stop: for example, moving from 1/60 sec to 1/30 sec at the same aperture and ISO can give moving water or foliage a little more blur. It’s a focused option for fine adjustments, not a heavy light blocker.
