Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 2.1 (7stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 2.1 (7stops) Filter | Create smoother motion in bright light
Longer exposures can soften moving water or clouds, even when daylight would otherwise force you to use a fast shutter speed. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 2.1 (7stops) Filter reduces the light reaching your camera by seven stops, giving you more room to use a slower shutter without changing the scene’s lighting. It suits photographers who want to show movement as a smooth blur while keeping a considered exposure in bright conditions. An ND 2.1 filter is a substantial reduction, so it’s particularly suited to deliberate long-exposure work rather than small exposure adjustments. The 82mm size is the key fit detail: match that diameter to the filter thread on your lens. For a simple starting point, keep your chosen aperture and ISO, then lengthen the shutter speed by seven stops to balance the exposure.
Specialist Note
Bright conditions can leave you with no practical way to slow the shutter enough for the moving-water look you want. This filter’s seven-stop reduction gives you that extra exposure time: as a rough example, a 1/125-second shutter can become about one second while keeping the aperture and ISO unchanged. That makes it a specific tool for smoothing streams, fountains or passing clouds when the light is strong. The 82mm diameter matters at the lens: choose it for a lens with an 82mm filter thread. One honest point: seven stops is a big step, so it’s less suited to scenes where you only need a modest reduction in light.
