Freewell Neo 2 ND16/PL Magnetic Filter

Freewell Neo 2 ND16/PL Magnetic Filter | Balance light and reflections

Freewell Neo 2 ND16/PL Magnetic Filter combines an ND16 and polarising filter in a magnetic design. It’s for drone pilots who want more control over bright outdoor footage, especially when glare or reflections distract from the scene. The ND16 designation identifies the filter’s light-reducing strength; the PL designation indicates polarisation. Together, they address two different parts of the image: exposure and reflected light. That makes the filter most relevant for filming in daylight, when you want to retain your chosen shutter setting while also managing reflections in the view. Its magnetic attachment is part of the product design, so it’s intended for a compatible magnetic filter setup. For aerial video makers who already use the matching system, this is a focused option for bright conditions and reflective scenes, rather than a general-purpose accessory for every kind of flight.

What ND16/PL means in use

ND16 is commonly understood as a four-stop reduction in incoming light. That can help when bright conditions would otherwise push you toward a faster shutter speed than you want for motion. The polarising element can help reduce reflections from surfaces such as water and glass, and can deepen the appearance of a blue sky. Its effect depends on the angle between the camera, subject and light, so small changes in the drone’s direction can alter the result.
