JJC F BC49 1/4 Black Mist & CPL Composite Filter
JJC F BC49 1/4 Black Mist & CPL Composite Filter | Softer highlights, controlled reflections
JJC combines a 1/4 Black Mist effect with a CPL in one composite filter, bringing two distinct looks into a single piece of glass. The Black Mist side softens the rendering of bright highlights, while the polarising effect helps reduce reflections and deepen colour. It’s aimed at photographers and video makers who want a gentler, less clinical look while still having a way to manage glare in a scene. That pairing is especially useful for portraits near bright windows, or for reflective surfaces such as shop glass and water. The 1/4 strength gives the mist effect a defined, noticeable role in the image; it isn’t simply a neutral protective layer. The two effects work together, so this filter makes most sense when you want both softer highlights and polarisation in your finished image. If you’re after only one of those effects, a single-effect filter may give you more control over the look.
Specialist Note
With the two effects combined, you can shape highlights and reflections without swapping between separate filters. I’d suggest this to someone who wants portraits with softened bright areas, or who photographs through reflective glass: use the 1/4 Black Mist look for the highlights, then turn the CPL effect until unwanted reflections ease. That gives you a practical way to judge the result in the frame rather than guessing at it. The 1/4 rating is a useful guide here: the mist effect is part of the image, so it suits people who want that softer rendering, not those aiming for a completely untouched look. Its main trade-off is that the effects come as a pair.
