Kase Revolution Plus R-GND 0.9 95 mm
Kase Revolution Plus R-GND 0.9 95 mm | Balance bright skies at the horizon
A bright sky can pull attention away from the landscape below it, especially when a dramatic sunset or sunrise is part of the scene. The Kase Revolution Plus R-GND 0.9 is a graduated neutral-density filter: its darker area reduces light in part of the frame, helping bring a bright horizon closer in exposure to the land beneath it. The 0.9 strength corresponds to three stops of light reduction at its darkest area, so it’s suited to scenes with a noticeable brightness difference rather than a uniformly dark frame. Its reverse-graduated design is intended for the bright band around the horizon, a common challenge when the sun sits low. Landscape photographers who want to retain detail in both sky and foreground can use it to balance the scene during capture, instead of relying entirely on adjustments later.
Specialist Note
“Is the R-GND 0.9 meant for a bright strip at the horizon?” Yes — that’s the situation its reverse graduation addresses. I’d consider it for a sunrise or sunset where the sky just above the horizon is brighter than the foreground, and position the transition carefully across that bright band. The 0.9 strength gives up to three stops of reduction in the darkest area; as a guide, that can turn a 1/125 sec exposure into roughly 1/15 sec there, while the rest of the frame receives less correction. The 95 mm size is the filter’s stated format, so make sure your filter setup takes that size. It suits landscape shooters with strong horizon light; it won’t balance every uneven sky on its own.
