Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 95mm
Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 95mm | Balance bright skies with a soft transition
When a bright sky competes with a darker landscape, a graduated neutral-density filter can help bring the two parts of the scene closer together in the photograph. The Kase Revolution Plus Soft GND 0.9 is made for that kind of contrast: its graduated effect lets you reduce brightness across part of the frame while keeping the rest clear. It suits landscape photographers working with open skies, coastlines or broad views where the horizon gives you a natural place to position the transition. The soft graduation is also worth considering when the line between land and sky isn’t perfectly straight. This is a considered tool for shaping exposure in-camera, rather than a filter for changing colour or adding an effect across the whole image. Its 95mm format is an important part of choosing it; match the filter size to the holder you plan to use. If you often photograph scenes with similar brightness from top to bottom, you may have less need for a graduated filter.
Specialist Note
The 95mm format is the practical detail to settle first: it makes this a size-specific filter, so plan around a holder made for that size. The soft GND transition is useful when a hard boundary would look too obvious, such as where a bright sky meets a gently uneven coastline. Place the graduation over the sky and keep the transition near the horizon; that lets you hold back the brighter area without applying the same reduction to the foreground. The 0.9 density gives you a defined level of reduction, but it can’t darken only the clouds or distinguish between objects along the horizon. I’d consider it for landscape work where you can place the transition deliberately.
