Kenko Celeste C-PL 49mm
Kenko Celeste C-PL 49mm | Tame reflections and deepen skies
To cut distracting reflections from water or glass and bring more definition to a blue sky, a polarising filter can make a scene easier to read straight from the camera. The Kenko Celeste C-PL 49mm is a circular polarising filter in a 49mm size, for lenses with a matching filter thread. Its most useful role is selective: it can reduce many reflections from non-metallic surfaces, and you can adjust the effect by turning the filter while looking at the scene. That can help with shop windows, a pond surface, or a bright landscape where the sky feels washed out. It suits photographers who want to manage those reflections as they compose rather than rely on editing later. A polariser is generally most effective when the light comes from the side. The result also depends on your angle to the light, so it won’t remove every reflection or darken every part of the sky evenly; rotate it and judge the effect in the frame.
Specialist Note
The annoyance this solves is familiar: a window reflection or bright sheen can hide the detail you meant to photograph. Since this is a C-PL, you can turn the polarising effect as you compose; the 49mm size means it’s for a lens with a matching front filter thread. For a shopfront, rotate it slowly while watching the glass until the reflection eases, then stop before the view looks unnaturally flat. At a lake, the same adjustment can reveal more beneath the surface, depending on your angle to the light. I’d recommend it to someone who often photographs through glass or around water. Its effect changes with your position and the light, so it takes a moment to set for each scene.
