Laowa Aksen 17.5mm f/1.7 5-10X Ultra Macro APO (Coax Illum) - RF
Laowa Aksen 17.5mm f/1.7 5-10X Ultra Macro APO (Coax Illum) - RF | Reveal fine detail at high magnification
A tiny feature on a component, petal or specimen can disappear in an ordinary close-up. The Laowa Aksen 17.5mm f/1.7 5-10X Ultra Macro APO (Coax Illum) - RF is an interchangeable macro lens for photographers who need to work at very high magnification. It’s suited to macro, product and nature photography, especially subjects where small details are the point of the image. The lens uses a Canon RF mount and manual focus, so you’ll set focus yourself rather than rely on autofocus. That makes careful, deliberate focusing part of the process. Its name also identifies APO optics and coaxial illumination, features that are relevant when working with detailed subjects. For controlled close-up work at home, in a studio or with small natural subjects, this is a specialist tool rather than an everyday general-purpose lens.
Specialist Note
Getting a very small subject to fill the frame can be the sticking point; this lens gives you a 5–10X magnification range to work with. I’d use the lower end to compose a tiny product detail, then move toward 10X when a specimen’s fine structure is the subject. The f/1.7 maximum aperture gives you room to work with a wider opening when exposure is tight, though at these magnifications precise focus still takes patience. It suits patient macro photographers and product makers who want to show details close up. Manual focus is part of that hands-on approach, so it’s less suited to quick, grab-and-go shooting.
