At f/1.2, the lens admits plenty of light, which can help you keep shutter speeds up indoors and after sunset. Wide open, its shallow depth of field can also draw attention to your chosen subject. The 50mm focal length works well when you want a composed frame without the tighter feel of a telephoto. This is a prime for considered framing, rather than a zoom for changing your composition from the camera position.
Specialist Note
At f/1.2, the in-focus area can be very shallow, so I’d take care with eye focus for a close portrait. That’s the trade-off, and also why this Meike makes sense when light is scarce. For a still portrait, try f/1.2 at around 1/250 sec, then adjust ISO to suit the available light. Its 50mm view leaves room to include some surroundings without needing to step far back. On a Nikon DX (APS-C) body, the framing is equivalent to 75mm; I’d use that tighter view for portraits or travel details. It suits deliberate framing best, not moments when you need to zoom quickly.
