Meike MK-EFTR-8PS 8POINTS Star Drop-In Filter
Meike MK-EFTR-8PS 8POINTS Star Drop-In Filter | Add star accents to bright lights
Without a star filter, bright points of light usually stay as they are in the photograph, and any added star effect has to come later in editing. The Meike MK-EFTR-8PS is made to create that effect while you take the picture, giving lights a more graphic, deliberate look. It suits photographers who want to make visible light sources part of the composition rather than leave them as plain highlights. Think of decorative lights in a still life or bright lamps in a night-time street scene: the effect is most apparent when there are distinct points of light to work with. This filter is genuinely best for creative images where that sparkle is meant to be noticed. It’s less suited to a scene where you want every highlight to look entirely natural, so I’d treat it as an expressive option rather than an everyday filter.
Specialist Note
“Will the 8POINTS filter give lamps a visible star effect?” Yes—that’s the point of this Meike: it turns bright points into eight-point accents in the image. I’d suggest it to someone making a night-time city photograph or a festive still life; include a few clear lights in the composition and let those highlights carry the effect. Its drop-in format is the other detail to keep in mind: this is a filter intended to be used in a drop-in arrangement, not a screw-on front filter. The look is purposefully stylised, so if you want subdued, natural highlights, this isn’t the one I’d reach for.
