Nikon Lens Hood HB-106 For Z 85/1.2 S
Nikon Lens Hood HB-106 For Z 85/1.2 S | Helps reduce stray-light flare
Keep stray light from washing across a portrait when a bright window or lamp sits just outside the frame. The Nikon Lens Hood HB-106 For Z 85/1.2 S is the lens hood named for Nikon’s Z 85/1.2 S lens. It suits portrait photographers who want a simple way to shade the lens in changing available light, whether they’re working beside a window or outdoors with the sun off to one side. Using a hood can help reduce flare and veiling glare, preserving contrast when unwanted rays reach the front of the lens. It won’t change the lens’s rendering or replace careful positioning of your subject and light; its job is more specific than that. For portraits where the light is grazing the lens from outside the composition, the HB-106 is a practical alternative to trying to shade it with your hand.
Specialist Note
The HB-106 shades the Z 85/1.2 S without you having to hold a hand over the lens. At 85mm, this lens gives you a natural working view for head-and-shoulders portraits; at f/1.2, you can work in available light and keep the background soft. For a window-lit portrait, place the window just outside the frame and use the hood to help guard against light skimming into the lens. It’s also handy for portraits under bright event lighting when a lamp sits off to one side. One limit: a hood can’t block a light source that’s in the picture itself.
