PocketWizard AC5 RF Shield Soft: Reduce radio noise around flash receivers
Radio-frequency interference from certain Canon Speedlites can affect a FlexTT5 or FlexTT6 receiver. The PocketWizard AC5 RF Shield Soft combines special RF-shielding material with a shoe filter to reduce that interference around the receiver. It’s particularly relevant with the Canon 580EX II, 580EX and 430EX, which can generate RF noise. By contrast, the 600EX-RT produces relatively little electromagnetic interference and works well with these transceivers without shielding. The AC5 also works as a soft protective pouch: it helps guard the gear against scratches and bumps when packed in a larger camera bag. That makes it useful for storing a receiver flash between setups or carrying it alongside other equipment. It’s intended for receiver flashes, not a camera’s built-in flash, so its role is specific: shielding a compatible flash-and-transceiver setup and protecting the gear when packed away.

Specialist Note
On a one-receiver setup with a Canon 580EX II, I’d consider the AC5 when RF noise is interrupting the FlexTT5 or FlexTT6 link. The RF material is the key here: it shields the receiver setup from interference generated by that flash, while the shoe filter is part of the same shielding solution. Since the controls remain reachable and the flash can still take its full range of positions, you don’t have to treat it as a fixed, awkward cover. It’s a focused accessory for those receiver-flash combinations, not a general shield for a built-in flash. It isn’t intended for horizontal use on a stand or light mast.
