PolarPro Portra True Colour PL + White Mist 1/4 - 77mm
PolarPro Portra True Colour PL + White Mist 1/4 - 77mm | Polarisation with a softer finish
This filter brings a polarising effect and a White Mist treatment together, giving you two creative options in one filter. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want to manage reflections while taking the edge off bright highlights for a gentler-looking image. The polarising element can help reduce reflections from surfaces such as water and glass; the White Mist effect is intended to soften the rendering rather than leave highlights looking crisp and hard. The Portra True Colour name points to a natural-colour look, making this an option for scenes where you want the softened character without deliberately pushing colour in a strong direction. It’s particularly suited to portraits, reflective outdoor scenes and video where a more restrained finish is part of the look. Keep in mind that the two effects serve different purposes, so this filter is a creative choice rather than a simple protective layer.
Using the combined look
For a portrait, the White Mist effect can lend bright areas a softer appearance; for a view through a shop window or across water, the polarising effect can help control surface reflections. You can choose the result by turning the polarising filter while watching the reflections change, then compose around the softer rendering. The combination gives you a specific look to work with, rather than a clear filter whose job is simply to leave the image unchanged.
Specialist Note
At 1/4 strength, the White Mist effect gives you a defined softening look without making that strength the whole point of every frame. I’d consider it for portraits when you want highlights to feel gentler, or for video when a softer rendering suits the scene. The PL element is useful around water or glass: turn the filter while looking at the reflection and settle on the amount of reduction you prefer. The 77mm size matters when choosing it for a lens: its filter thread needs to match. I’d choose this for a deliberate visual treatment, not as an everyday clear protector.
