Radius 18cm Nimbus Windshield (19/22)
Radius 18cm Nimbus Windshield (19/22) | Helps reduce wind noise outdoors
Without a windshield, moving air can add distracting wind noise to a microphone recording. The Radius 18cm Nimbus Windshield is an accessory for people who want to address that problem when recording outdoors or in other breezy conditions. It’s worth considering for spoken audio, such as an interview or a piece to camera, where wind noise can make a voice harder to hear. The name gives you two useful references: an 18cm size and a 19/22 designation. Those details help you narrow down whether this is the right windshield for your microphone setup, rather than choosing by appearance alone. Its purpose is specific: help with wind at the microphone. It won’t solve unrelated recording issues, so it makes most sense when wind is the problem you’re trying to control.
For location work, a windshield is most useful when it’s in place before recording starts. That way, you can keep your attention on the speaker and the sound rather than stopping to address wind in the recording afterwards. The 18cm size is also a practical point to bear in mind when planning space around your microphone. Use the 19/22 marking as a fit reference for the setup you’re buying it for; the product name doesn’t identify particular microphone models, so it’s best not to assume a fit based on brand alone. If wind isn’t affecting your recordings, this specialised accessory may not be something you need.
Specialist Note
The 18cm size won’t tell you by itself whether this is the right fit for your microphone, so I’d pay close attention to the 19/22 designation. That’s what makes this a more specific purchase than simply choosing a windshield by its name. If the marking suits your setup, I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or spoken pieces where gusts are getting onto the mic: fit the windshield before you roll, then record with the speaker positioned as planned. I also like that the stated size gives you something concrete to consider when working in a tight space. It’s a focused answer to wind, not a fix for every source of unwanted sound.
