Rycote 18cm Short Hair SFT 19/22
Rycote 18cm Short Hair SFT 19/22 | A short-hair cover for microphone setups
Wind can spoil a microphone recording with unwanted rumble, even when the rest of the setup is ready to go. The Rycote 18cm Short Hair SFT 19/22 is a short-hair microphone accessory for adding a covering over a microphone. Its name gives you two practical identifiers: an 18cm length and the SFT 19/22 designation, which helps distinguish this version when you’re choosing an accessory for a specific setup. It suits sound recordists who want a short-hair format for location recording, interviews or other situations where some wind protection is needed. The short hair makes this a more restrained option than a longer, bulkier covering, while still giving the microphone a layer intended to help manage wind. It’s a focused accessory rather than a general-purpose audio kit: the useful starting point is matching the SFT 19/22 designation to the microphone setup you’re building around.
Specialist Note
This short-hair version isn’t the one I’d choose as the sole answer to strong, gusty wind; its appeal is a more compact covering for conditions that don’t call for a much fuller one. The 18cm length gives you a clear size reference when planning how the accessory sits in your microphone setup, and the SFT 19/22 designation helps keep this particular version distinct. I’d consider it for an interview or location recording where light air movement is a concern: fit the covering over the microphone before recording, then keep the microphone positioned out of direct wind where you can. It suits someone who knows they need this short-hair format, rather than someone shopping for an unspecified wind solution.
