Rycote Cyclone Windshield Kit Small
Rycote Cyclone Windshield Kit Small | Helps tame wind in compact recording setups
The small format is the defining choice here: it keeps the windshield kit suited to compact microphone setups rather than taking up space around a larger rig. Rycote’s Cyclone Windshield Kit Small is an accessory for recording outdoors, where moving air can interfere with the sound captured by a microphone. It’s intended for sound recordists, filmmakers and interviewers who need to work in open air and want a physical screen around the microphone. That makes it particularly relevant for location dialogue, short interviews and outdoor ambience, where wind can turn a clear recording into a distracting one. Its black colour is understated on a visible setup. The key consideration is size: this is the Small kit, so it’s aimed at a compact arrangement, not a catch-all solution for every microphone setup. If your work takes you outside with a small microphone rig, it’s a focused way to address wind at the source.
Specialist Note
A gust crosses the path just as an outdoor interview begins; that’s when a windshield earns its place. I’d consider this Small kit for a compact microphone setup when you need to keep the recording going outside, rather than retreating indoors at the first breeze. Its small size matters because it keeps the protection in proportion to a compact rig, while the black finish stays visually quiet on camera. For a one-microphone interview, position the microphone within the windshield assembly before you start recording, then listen for wind before the first question. It’s a practical, purpose-specific accessory; the Small format is the limit too, so I wouldn’t treat it as a universal fit for larger setups.
